RDRC staff receive training on Gender Responsive Planning, monitoring and Evaluation

The Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission has facilitated its staff to acquire training in Gender Responsive Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. The training aims at enabling RDRC employees to acquire adequate knowledge in Gender science, especially in the field of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration.

"The training is vital for Commission’s employees because it will give them tangible knowledge in regard with mainstreaming of ex-combatants in community", according to the RDRC Chairperson, Madam Nyirahabineza Valerie.

She remarks that training employees in Gender science will enable RDRC to carry out well reintegration activities for ex-combatants in the community. She also asserts that Gender Responsive Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation is a modern concept which accords rights to both women and men to access social-economic opportunities in the community, with an aim to  improving beneficiaries livelihoods. She adds that Gender has spearheaded the economic development of the country, should therefore be considered as a priority need when reintegrating ex-combatants in their communities of return.

Mr. Kayiranga Francois, the national Coordinator for Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission highlights the essence of studying Gender responsive Planning Monitoring and Evaluation in DDR Process. He says Gender is a prerequisite for development in any given society once practiced well. He adds ex-combatants reintegration programs need Gender science for cementing relationship and partnership between couples.

 "We have learnt a lot and we hope to use the knowledge acquired in our daily work", says Twizeyimana Angelo, an employee of RDRC.  Miss Tendo Phiona, another RDRC staff appreciates steps taken by the RDRC to train employees in Gender. She says the initiative will grace ex-combatants reintegration work in the community.  

Mr. Twahirwa Alex, a senior lecturer and expert in Gender science echoed similar sentiments by asserting that the course will help Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission employees to carry out well ex-combatants demobilization and Reintegration activities in the community. He commends RDRC staff for their commitment while attending Gender studies at the institute. He says the knowledge acquired will enable them spar gender development in the society.

For her part, the Head of Rwanda Management Institute Dr. Mulindahabi Charline hails the Commission for sending the employees for a training in Gender. She remarks that her Institution will do what is necessary to pass adequate knowledge to the trainees. After delivering academic certificates to RDRC staff, Madam Charline lauded the graduates for excelling in Gender exams and wished them quality work while executing ex-combatants reintegration activities in the community. She requests the Commission to send as many students as it can for thorough training in Gender science.  

Notably, Gender science involves either the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. It is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female according to scientific reports.

Lastly, Gender is considered by many as a tool for peace building and conflict transformation.
